Strategy formulation dibina berdasarkan analisa SWOT bagi menggunakan sepenuhnya strength organisasi bagi menggunakan peluang ( opportunities ), menimbal balik ancaman, dan mengurangkan kelemahan .

Corporate Strategy : mengenalpasti beberapa perniagaan, market/industri yang kompeten dengan organisasi dan distribute sumber kepada semua perniaggan tersebut.Sesebuah perniagaan mempunyai 4 asas alternatif corporate strategy iaitu :

  1. Concentration
  2. Vertical integration
  3. Concentric diversification
  4. Conglomerate diversification

Concentration strategy - memberi fokus kepada sebuah perniagaan yang bersaing dalam single industri .

Vertical integration strategy - meluaskan organisasi kedalam saluran supply atau kepada distributor.

Concentric diversification - menuju ke dalam perniagaan baru yang berkait dengan core business syarikat tersebut.

Conglomerate diversification
- melibatkan pengembangan perniagaan kepada perniagaan yang tidak berkait langsung.

Pengenalan

Bagi negara maju seperti Jepun, US, German dan UK kapasiti pengetahuan mereka ada tinggi. Disebabkan aras pengetahuan yang begitu tinggi di negara diorang maka kekayaan yang dibina adalah dipacu oleh pengetahuan. Pelbagai best practice dan pengetahuan baru yang terbit dan penyelidikan dan pembangunan terhasil dari pelbagai perkara menghasilkan expolorasi bidang2x baru seperti nanoteknologi, kewangan berasaskan pengetahuan, pengetahuan dalam maritm dan begitu juga explorasi angkasaraya.

Oleh yang sedemikian, dokumen ini diwujudkan agar strategi dapat dikenalpasti agar tidak hanya pengetahuan dapat dipertingkatkan tetapi serapan pengetahuan dalam semua komuniti seperti entiti perniagaan, perkhidmatan awam dan juga masyarakat dapat dipertingkatkan.

is primarily about the choice of direction for the firm as a whole (small one-product company and a large multi business company)

is also about managing various product lines and business units for maximum value (large multi business company)

Strategy formulation

  • Performing a situation analysis, self-evaluation and competitor analysis: both internal and external; both micro-environmental and macro-environmental.
  • Concurrent with this assessment, objectives are set. These objectives should be parallel to a timeline; some are in the short-term and others on the long-term. This involves crafting vision statements (long term view of a possible future), mission statements (the role that the organization gives itself in society), overall corporate objectives (both financial and strategic), strategic business unit objectives (both financial and strategic), and tactical objectives.
  • These objectives should, in the light of the situation analysis, suggest a strategic plan. The plan provides the details of how to achieve these objectives.

This three-step strategy formulation process is sometimes referred to as determining where you are now, determining where you want to go, and then determining how to get there. These three questions are the essence of strategic planning. I/O Economics for the external factors and RBV for the internal factors.
